The Jinhai Oil Production Plant of Liaohe Oilfield has solved the sand production problem through an integrated process.

On March 5th, at the site of Well Wawa 38-39-K033CH in Jinhai Oil Production Plant of Liaohe Oilfield, after the application of the gravel packing technology, the well successfully overcame the long-term sand production problem and achieved a stable daily oil production of 2.2 tons. This marks the first successful application of the "small wellbore dedicated tubing + top packing" integrated technology in this type of well, filling the gap in efficient sand control technology for small wellbore horizontal wells in Liaohe Oilfield.
Previously, Well Wawa 38-39-K033CH, with its typical small wellbore specification of 5-inch casing, faced technical challenges such as high packing friction and small annular gap in the horizontal section, making it difficult for conventional techniques to achieve effective sand control and severely restricting the well's production capacity. To overcome this bottleneck, in December 2025, Jinhai Oil Production Plant, in collaboration with the Oil Production Research Institute of Liaohe Oilfield, established a specialized technical team to conduct multiple rounds of scheme arguments. The technical team optimized the construction parameters through meticulous numerical simulation, innovatively customized dedicated packing tubing and core tools for 5-inch wellbores, and for the first time introduced the top packing technology, forming an integrated "small wellbore dedicated tubing + top packing" technology solution, which effectively addressed the key issues of insufficient sand-carrying capacity in small annular spaces and easy dehydration of the slurry.
Facing the challenge of continuous operations, the technical team meticulously controlled the key steps of tubing run-in, packer setting, and gravel packing, monitored the pressure in real time, and dynamically adjusted the sand ratio and pump injection rate to ensure a smooth and efficient packing process and meet the quality standards. As of the end of February, the well's highest daily oil production reached 3.6 tons, demonstrating significant results in sand control and production capacity enhancement.
